| EXCEEDING
EXPECTATION North Cestrian has a long-established and envied reputation for recognising and assisting in the development of potential. Not all youngsters progress at the same rate and there are some of considerable ability who are not well-served by the 11+ examination or whose latent talent can be tapped by careful nurturing in their teens. The School’s emphasis on personal development and our concern to see each pupil as an individual ensure that there is considerable focus on Added Value during the time a pupil is with us. Each pupil’s work is assessed through nationally moderated base-line tests at entry and subsequent progress is carefully monitored against realistic academic targets. Analysis of personal data enables staff to give meaningful advice about options and progress and to set challenging individual targets. Whole school assessments enable senior management to assess the performance of key year groups and recent history proves that academic results generally far outweigh expectation. Added Value is much more than a statistical exercise; it necessitates convincing each boy/girl what he/she may be able to achieve. It is as much about pastoral care and personal confidence as it is about academic targets alone and, as such, is a guiding factor in all we strive to do. |
