A Message from the Headmaster

When I announced our decision to introduce co-education beyond the Sixth Form I was responding in part to regular requests from local families. This was strengthened by a firm belief that we can best serve today’s local community by offering all of the advantages of a North Cestrian education to girls as well as boys.

Each year I receive phone calls from worried parents who feel that there is scarcity of places in South Manchester for girls who could benefit from our particular approach to schooling – a small school with an individual approach which aims to push each to the very best of her ability.

North Cestrian has a very strong reputation for the success it achieves with youngsters, some lacking in confidence or late developers, but all of whom deserve the opportunities of a grammar school education. In both curriculum and extra-curricular activity these are as wide and varied as those available in a much larger school. Few schools of our size can offer so many subjects at GCSE and “A” Level, the opportunity to progress directly through to the Sixth Form and successful transition to a strong university.

If you feel that North Cestrian might suit your daughter then I would encourage you to contact me immediately. You will be welcomed for a personal tour during a normal school day and a meeting with our established girls and you can be sure of both time and attention. That has always been the Cestrian way and we appreciate the importance of an informed decision which leaves you confident that you have done the best for your daughter.

David Vanstone
